The Vegie Smugglers cookbook is now on sale.

Now two gorgeous books, 320 pages, over 120 recipes!

Visit the new Sample section to get JPG & PDF downloads of both cookbooks.

Three years ago, in the midst of feeding hell, I looked everywhere for a book to help me end my dinnertime battles. There wasn’t any realistic or practical help on hand. So I have made the cookbooks I couldn’t buy.

Here’s how the Vegie Smugglers cookbooks can help you…

1. End the dinnertime battles.
Sneak in the ingredients your kids won’t voluntarily eat. Hide all sorts of vegetables, lentils, beans, tofu and fruit.

2. Cook once a night. All the recipes are either yummy enough for everyone, or easily adapted to suit both kid’s and adult’s tastebuds.

3. Recipes that suit the way you live. Chapters include;

QUICK! DINNER! – Meals to prepare in advance, and complete in an instant.
YESTERDAY – It’s already made, waiting to be reheated.
PLEASE FREEZE ME – Stock the freezer and you’ll never be left hungry.
IT’S THE WEEKEND – Family-friendly meals to make fresh.
CUTE FRUIT – Smuggle fruit and indulge a little.

PLUS, book 1 has a large section about Vegie Smuggling techniques and a general good health guide with all your vegies listed. Book 2 includes a visual guide to serving sizes and no-fuss tips on how to improve the eating habits of your household.

Both books have…
• 68 tasty and practical recipes, every recipe with colour photos and easy to follow instructions;
• Tips on freezing, reheating and converting to adult gourmet.
• Areas to rate and comment on each recipe.
• 160 full colour pages, 205x260mm. 150gsm satin stock (perfect for wipe clean). Heavy cover stock with deep folds, perfect for bookmarking.

Buy books online for $29.95 each.
Postage $9.95, Australia-wide – you can get any number of copies for this flat rate.

Here’s some recent comments about Vegie Smugglers…

“I love your book! I’m very very excited about it. It looks gorgeous but more importantly the recipes are terrific. I made the salmon pancakes on Sunday night and the only sound at the table was quiet scoffing as every last pancake was eaten.” – Juanita Phillips, broadcaster and author of A pressure cooker saved my life.

” Wendy – you have produced a beautiful book. The recipes are simple, but appetizing to both children and adults alike and I love the morning prep tips! The pictures alone are hopefully enough to get my daughter interested in eating!” – Tara Adams

“I just had to get in touch to let you know that your wonderful recipe book has proven a massive hit in our household. I am so impressed by the high quality of all the recipes I’ve tried and they really are great for all the family. I am also adding my notes and ideas – add a handful of cooked rissoni to the cheesy pots, some smoked fish to the fish pie and sweet chilli sauce (for grown ups) for the vegie slice, in a burrito (Mission brand doesn’t stick, unlike El Paso). I would never have thought to include cauliflower in a mashed topping for a fish pie – genius!” – Sam Leader

I was disappointed after driving 2 hours to Gisbourne to Chapters Book Store, one of only two book shops that sell your book in Victoria, only to discover a) that the girl didn’t know the book, had to look it up & of course didn’t have any! b) was told she could order it in but it would be $30 not $24. Needless to say I still don’t have the book….

      Hi Deb,

Really sorry to hear that you’ve had an unhappy experience with the book. Definitely always worth checking with the bookstores before-hand – I have no idea if they’re out of stock unless they contact me. The good stores do reorder promptly (and the good stores also pay their invoices!!!). The book does RRP for $30 in store – I offer it for $24.95 online as a discount, but then I have to add on shipping. I ship Australia-wide, usually the book arrives 3-4 days after purchase.

Hoep this hasn’t put you off – it’s a great book!
      cheers,
      Wendy

      Hi Ros,

Thanks for your kind words – the good news is that I’ve just received notification that I’ll have my reprint of the first book in just a few days time! Plenty of time to stock up for Christmas ;)

Your books are amazing!!! I was a little bit apprehensive about buying both of them, but now that I have them I know I would have regretted not getting two! I have been having trouble getting my son (21 months) to eat his dinner. Since using your books he has eaten every meal I have cooked!! I am also enjoying the different treats, and so is my husband who is a bit of a sweet tooth!

Thanks so much for making cooking enjoyable again! It makes a huge difference seeing smiles and an empty plate at the end of dinner time!
Looking forward to a number three!!

    Hello Wendy,
I am not sure if this is the place for questions but I am having trouble finding another place. I am interested to purchase your book but my family is vegetarian (hence the need to make sure my son eats the veggies he likes as well as the ones that he doesn’t like as much). Does your book provide an array of recipes that are meat-free or do they tend to centre around a meat or fish? I don’t mean this as a criticism by any means, I would just like to check that it could meet my needs before making a purchase.
    Thank you

No problem Claire. On the ‘samples’ page, you can download a PDF of each index from the books. About 1/4 of the meals are vegetarian, the rest with meat and fish. So while there are some delicious vegetarian options scattered throughout both books, they aren’t the majority of recipes.

      hope this helps,
      Wendy

Hi Wendy, A little while ago I purchased your two cookbooks and the lunchbox planner. I have been absolutely wrapped with the books – thank you, they have been wonderful. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the lunchbox planner download – I think maybe it ended up in my spam folder and then deleted…?? Would you mind re-sending to me. The order was under my husbands name I think – michael o’halloran and my email addy is jessiejean@fastmail.com.au. Thanks so much, Jess

Thank you so much for your wonderful recipe books (vege smugglers 1 & 2)- I purchased them in desperation due to my fussy 4 year old who refused, gagged, and/or vomited up pretty much any and all vegetables and most meat. I didn’t hold high hopes, but thought I’d give some of your recipes a go anyway!
5 nights later she has eaten a decent portion of 4 out of 5 of the meals I cooked. Imagine my amazement day one when she gobbled up her ravioli with orange sauce saying “mmm yum!” (And thats all mixed in, not just as a dipping sauce on the side, as she would have previously demanded). The only meal she didn’t take to with gusto was the vege slice, but no problems there as I loved it- the leftovers are portioned in the freezer for future attempts with her and/or work lunches for me!!
Love love love that you put the freezing and reheating details for most recipes, and the adult tweaking ideas are awesome!! I’m a single mum, so I’m not interested in cooking 2 different meals for just us, and if I cant portion and freeze, even with one meal, more than half is wasted. It is such a relief to have a dozen meals ready to go in the freezer after a long day at work. And I can see even more leftovers going in there soon, as I cant wait to try out some of your other recipes…. for the first time in 4 years I am enjoying preparing meals because, for a change, they will be eaten!!
You have saved my sanity! I can’t thank you enough!! Carolyn ;-)
PS- as a reward for her excellent dinner eating, I made the chocolate beetroot brownies with my daughter on the weekend… & they were another winner! Dangerously good!!
